Space, the Not So Final Frontier

About a week ago I was fortunate to get a new client and photograph some of their office space.  Regus is a company that provides office space and services to small businesses and people working remotely.  It is a great solution that a lot of people like me that primarily work alone.

As a commercial photographer, I get to experience all kinds of space.  The first thing that struck me when I arrived to the shoot was the beautiful color and modern design of the space.  It’s easy to work when you’re excited about photographing your subject whether it’s a room or a person.

When I arrive to a shoot I like to walk around and just look and try to envision shots I want to take.  I also always consult the client and my assistant.  No matter who they are, people usually have an idea that you haven’t thought of.

After that, I get to work.  Set up the tripod, get my settings and start shooting.  That’s the easy part.  There’s always challenges with lighting, reflections, etc but you adapt and stay calm.  When you’re photographing space, it’s not going anywhere so it will gladly wait for you.

Most of all, and you’ll hear me say this a lot, I like to have fun.  I specifically moved to a city I love and started my own business doing something that I enjoy.  Make it as enjoyable as you can for your client.  Talk to them, get to know them, find out any concerns the have and alleviate them.  We will talk a lot more about this in the next blog Head Shots, I Know You Hate Having Your Picture Taken.
